The study, conducted by the International Association for Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) based in Boston, USA, certified the high quality of Mathematics and Science education provided in Singapore’s public schools. This is further proven when Singapore emerged first in both the Mathematics and Science study, which is carried out in 49 countries, of Grade 4 (Primary 4) and Grade 8 (Secondary 2) students in 2002-03.

The first institute of higher learning in Singapore, National University of Singapore (NUS) was acknowledged as one of the finest universities in the world. In Times of London survey of the 200 best universities in the world for 2004, NUS was ranked 18th. NUS was again placed 9th in league of Engineering and IT faculties in a survey, ahead of many renowned universities.

In The Times Higher Education Supplement (THES)’s 2005 rankings, National University of Singapore (NUS) was ranked 22nd in the world and continues to have a strong foothold in the major disciplines. Nanyang Technological University (NTU) climbed to the 48th spot and was placed 26th among technology universities, which is a just niche away from being the best in the world.

Singapore has the seamless accessibility to all parts of the country with an efficient public transport system. From the eastern most point (Pasir Ris) to the western most point (Boon Lay) of Singapore, it takes only about an hour to travel on our public mass rapid transit (MRT) transport system.

Singapore, with a GDP of S$160 billion in 2002, though small in size and population (4 million people) has become a reputable financial center, a key regional trading center, the world’s busiest port, the world’s most efficient airport and a top location for investment. The latest 2002 survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) involving 60 economies, won Singapore the title of having the best business environment in Asia. The Swiss-based World Economic Forum (WEF) also rated Singapore as the most competitive economy possessing great innovative ability and a solid macro economy in the world.

With the recent clinch of the Norwegian Solar Energy Plant Project this year (Oct07), more jobs and business activities related to solar energy will be generated. In addition, Singapore will see an influx of motor racing car lovers with the F1 race that will be launched in 2008 and a permanent racing track designated for more races and tournaments to be held annually from the following years onwards.
